Jo Lynn (Barter) (Tyler) Buell
July 31, 1940 – July 25, 2026

It all began for Jo Lynn (Barter) (Tyler) Buell on July 31, 1940 in Covina, CA. Born to Joseph & Lenora Barter, she was bound for the exciting and happy times, that became her life. At 4 years of age the family moved to Trona, CA. By then both of her little sisters had come along and Trona would become the family’s permanent home.

All 12 of Jo Lynn’s school years were attended at the Trona Unified Schools. Each year that passed, she made great progress in her path. Brownies, Girl Scouts, Band, Drum Major, Jobs Daughters, GAA, Trona Community Church, etc. She joined every club / team available. She graduated with the class of 1958. She received a scholarship to nursing school, which she attended in San Francisco for 1 year.

Marrying in 1959 to Bobby Tyler (class of 1959), Jo Lynn moved to Bakersfield, CA, where she and Bobby’s 1 st child, Richard Tyler (deceased) was born. They relocated after a short time, to Wenatchee, WA, where their 2nd child, Heather Tyler McCourt was born. Jo Lynn liked being active in their community, and as the children grew she volunteered as a leader, and willing parent to support all of their clubs and events.

After many years in Wenatchee WA, Jo Lynn and Bobby grew apart, and divorced. A short time later she and daughter Heather moved to Richland, WA, where Jo Lynn worked for the Girl Scout Council. An opportunity opened up to work with the Red Cross, but required she move to Portland Oregon. The move to Oregon was successful and proved to be a good decision. Getting settled in Portland Jo Lynn and Heather wanted to become active in the community. One Sunday they attended Grace Presbyterian Church. Heather joined the youth group, and met the Youth Leader, Tom Buell. Jo Lynn asked to meet the youth leader, that Heather was so impressed with. Heather introduced Jo Lynn and Tom, and that introduction turned out to be a defining moment in their lives.

Jo Lynn became Mrs. Thomas Buell on March 2, 1979. She retired from the Red Cross in 1997. Anxious to move on, Jo Lynn & Tom relocated to Weston, OR. Jo Lynn loved traveling during her retirement years, but was always happy to return to her beloved mountains in Weston. She was an avid quilter, making dozens of beautiful quilts, both for friends and charities. These were very happy years for her.

Jo Lynn is survived by her husband, of 47 years, Tom Buell; daughter Heather (Tyler) McCourt (Todd); sister Ruby (Barter) Black; grandsons Nathan McCourt (Porsha), and Jacob McCourt; granddaughter, Selena Tyler; great grandson, Kayson McCourt; nieces and nephews, along with extended families on all sides. She was devout in her belief, and of all of her accomplishments, her focus was always on encouraging family and friends to study, to learn, and believe that the Lord Is our Savior.
