I want to express my appreciation to “Trona on the Web” for it’s obituary notices. Like most small towns, the children who grew up there because a parent was employed there, moved on in adulthood.
During the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s in particular, Trona was a bustling, thriving town with lots of young people growing up there. But as we scattered into the wind and set up lives across the country and as Trona imploded on itself, we mostly lost our connections with each other.

Obviously those of us from that era are getting older and frankly dying off. At my age, the obituary column becomes a journal of my past and a reminder of who I was.

I did not know David Wayne but I morn his passing anyway. He is part of my past even if we didn’t know each other. Trona was unique as a small town where growing up was truly exiting every day. There were no fences and almost no boundaries. We walked barefoot on hot sand and asphalt, caught horned toads and rattlesnakes in the desert and our pet dogs followed us to school and waited around for us. David was a part of that storied past. My past.
Go with God, David. Rest in peace.
