Phyllis (Oswald) Bettencourt 1938-2021
Phyllis was born in the Trona Hospital on June 28, 1938 to Leonard and Marjorie Oswald on June 28, 1938. Phyllis married her husband Bill Bettencourt in 1961. When going to Trona High School Phyllis was was the head majorette when she was a senior, the secretary of the California Scholarship Foundation and a member of the tennis team. In 1956, her senior year Phyllis was homecoming queen. Phyllis has a brother, Don Oswald, who was in the class of 1960.
Phyllis passed away December 19, 2021.

A service will be held on January 4, 2022, 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 608 N. Church St. in Visalia, CA

I put a message on the mortuary site but want to add a note here. I
My family moved to Trona (Westend village) when I was four. We lived next door to Phyllis ( the Oswald family) and became great friends and neighbors. I always thought she was so beautiful! My sister and her brother, Don, were in the same class. We moved three houses apart when the village was moving the houses and we had to move. I was so happy to see all of the pictures, including her father and mother in the video. I connected with her in Visalia several years ago and she has invited me to come over sometime. I’m really sorry I didn’t. Don lived at the coast as did their mom and my family reconnected with them their.I extend my condolences to the family and hope to see Don at the visitation today.
Such a wonderful person, her entire life. So sad to hear of so many beautiful Trona alumni passing. Sending hugs and prayers to her family!
