This building was used as the school until 1941 when the new school on Trona Road was completed. After that it was converted to a department store. The wing on the back was added in the late 1940’s to expand the store. It was the toys and hardware and shoes area. In the original section of the building the sold clothing. It always seemed like a strange building for a department store to me. Back then I didn’t know that it was once the school. It had a majestic entry with concrete steps will pillars on each side and if I remember right it concrete lions on each side of the door. To me it seemed more like it shold be a library.
