I'm interested in Trona because:: other reasons!

I have noticed that a lot of people used to live here. What happened? Can we attract more people to move to Trona again to creat another Boom? I work with LiHOUS Co-operation, a company that provides affordable homes for people who like to move to Trona. We could make this place great again. I recently moved to Trona and I like it very much. The people are genuinely most friendly. I never thought there were nice people like the Tronans still left. I greatly appreciate life here.

I am looking for someone - John Argyris (class of 1987). We has our ten year reunion and John was the only one that could not be found. Do any of you know where he might be or any of his family? Please let me know if anyone has a lead. Thanks.

Hey there fellow Trona-ites! What a trip to find my old Trona on the net. Born and raised there, I was in the class of 76'. I graduated and joined the Navy with with Wayne McKinney and Larry Archuletta (anyone heard from them?). I totally agree with the comments of most of the people who lived there. For all it's ugliness Trona was a great place to grow up, had many great friends there (Vernon Doyle, David Rogers, Aaron Alexander- what ever happend to you dudes??). Haven't heard from any of my old classmates since I left. Don't know what it is about Trona (maybe the smell-ha!), but I've been all over the world and seen many things but nothing warms my heart like memories of Trona and the friends i had there.

My Grandparents Glenn & Eva Gottfredson lived in Trona from 1952-1970. My grandfather worked for the American Potash & Chemical Company - Trona Plant during those years. I use to visit them in the SUMMER when I was a child. One year (1961) I attended the second grade at Trona Elementary School. I last visited Trona in 1967. I remember when the original Trona market closed and the "new" D&B Supermarket opened (about 1962). My grandparents mailing address used to be: P.O. Box 1715, Trona, California

I was glancing thru this and thought it was neat to see so many people whom still talk good about Trona. It was a tight close friendly community but has significantly changed since. I hope you are all doing well and are having successful lives. Maybe someday we'll all see one another again. Joy

Our architecture firm designed the American Potash & Chemical Corp.'s admin. building, 4 different floor plans for residences, 8-unit apartment house, and a garage - during 1928 and 1929. We have all the original plans still. I am writing a book about the history of our firm, and was wondering if anyone knew if these buildings still exist....it may be worth a trip if so.....I current live in Austin, TX. I am also curious to know how our firm (then known as John Parkinson & Donald B. Parkinson, Architects/Los Angeles) got the commission.....who did they know at Am. Potash & Chem. to get the job from?????? My illustrious predescessors designed the LA City Hall, the LA Union Station, USC campus, and the LA Memorial Coliseum-only host site for 2 Olympic games ('32 and '84.) If there is an expert historian I would be grateful in hearing from them. Thanks for reading this....I will need "then" photos from about 1930 and "current" photos if the buildings still exist. It is fun to see a Trona web site become avaiable. My close friend of 30+ years Jane Jimison told me about it. Although I don't care to visit Trona too much anymore, it is where my roots are, my parents and several aunts and uncles even attended school there in the 50's. I have great childhood memories of the way Trona used to be, it is sad to see what it has become. I attended grades K-12 at Trona schools, as did both my sisters, Carol and Shari. They were born at the Trona hospital way back when, while I was born at the hospital in Ridgecrest. I still keep in contact with a few people from school, and my parents, Linda and Vernon of course, but would be glad to hear from others. Thanks for the opportunity for the contact! Tami

My husband and I spent some time in Death Valley about 1 1/2 years ago. He was working in Trona building tanks. We fell in love with the area and would love to go back! Only problem is, I can't find anything about employment in Trona. Surely someone should be hiring for maintenance in the plants. My husband is an assistant foreman/welder for a tank building company. We've been stuck in the East and would love to be back in the desert! Any help would be great! Thanks!

I HAVE ONLY BEEN BACK TO TRONA ONCE SINCE I MOVED TO TEXAS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO ONE LIVES THERE ANYMORE. IT SURE WAS A GREAT PLACE TO GROW UP. AS WITH EVERYONE ELSE I TOO HAVE A LOT OF FOND MEMORIES. I STILL KEEP IN TOUCH WITH MONA REEVES BUT SURE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOME OF THE OTHERS. I CAN'T WAIT TO COME TO THE REUNION TO SHOW MY KIDS WHAT A HOLE IN THE EARTH IN GREW UP IN. THEY JUST THINK THEY LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN NOW. WAIT UNTIL THEY SEE TRONA. IT IS TOO BAD THAT NO ONE CARES ENOUGH TO KEEP THE TOWN GOING. MY HAT IS OFF TO THE PERSON WHO STARTED THE WEB PAGES ABOUT TRONA!!!!!!!!!

Hello to all! This is a great site to get connected with. I grew up in Trona and graduated in '75 and left for the Navy. Nancy and I got married and have 3 grown boys and a granddaughter. I retired in '95 and now we manage a ministorage in Glendale CA. Some of you knew I was adopted and details. Now I know all and am very thankful to those who made it possible. On a sad note, my older brother Wayne died of cancer in '98. At his funeral he painted a precious sky with every color of the rainbow. Jack married Nancy's mom, Fawn in '77 and they are retired now. Both of them still exude that Trona spirit that we all have as a gift for having endured such a place. And what memories there are to send us back to a simpler time. Thanks for all that was posted before this and I will return to read more. Tim Wheatley

Hello fellow Tronans!!! My name is Corey Beerup, daughter of Norma and Ted Beerup, sister of Tracey and Lindsay Beerup. We were a fixture in Trona for quite a few years. In fact, some of you may have had my mother for your kindergarten teacher. This is so exciting to see so many familiar names, that bring back so many wonderful childhood memories. Trona really was a great place to be raised. My husband, however, fails to see this!!!! I live in Escondido Ca., and would love to hear from anyone who knew me or my family. Hope to see alot of you in October at the "big reunion".

I was born in Ridgecrest but have always been around the area of Trona because both sets of my Grandparents lived here and I used to just love to come to Trona a stay with them. I moved over to Trona my Senior year of high school and only wished I would have done it sooner. Both my parents graduated from Trona High also. My husband Chris and I bought a house a year ago and love living here and raising our son Tyler here. We had previously lived in Ridgecrest and Las Vegas and we both love Trona. We want our son to start and finish school here also.

I graduated from 8th grade at Trona School in 1947. I can remember a lot because I still have the yearbook. My dad worked for Amercan Potash and Chemical and I lived with Gus Funke and his wife on Yucca St. Gus was conductor on the railroad and took me on a few trips. I value the year I lived there because it was quite different and more pleasent than places I lived afterward. Now when I tell people about Trona, the scipt money, the 6 man football, the dirt football field, the tough initiation I endured to get into the Jr. Varsity club, and the other things that are unique they scarcely believe me. One of our teachers was Maxwell Rafferty, who went on to be California Supt. of schools and a high level politician. Thanks for the memories.

Hello Everyone!! It's nice to be in touch with other Trona-ites again! I graduated from Trona High School in 1977. Left town right after graduation, and never returned! Took alot of great memories with me, and still have them today. Believe it or not--I sort of miss that old 'stinky' desert town. Thanks for the web sites!! They really have opened up my eyes to the changes within the sort of abandoned town. I miss all my old classmates. If anyone from the class of 76 or 77, or whenever, reads this, and would like to e-mail me, and catch me up on life.. my address is hughes@kiski.net. Looking back, now that life is really moving on...Trona High School had some awesome memories, and great people. I hope all my classmates have achieved their goals and are successful, happy and healthy!! Everyone take care, and watch those sidewinders!

Dear Tronites, Last spring I stopped in at the museum in Trona, and the volunteer there told me about the Gemorama. It sounded like a good time, so I reserved a couple vacation days, and when the time rolled around, I fired up my VW van and motored on down from Fresno. I stayed at Red Rock, so didn't partake of the camping get-together, but was on the lake on Saturday for the mud and blow-hole trips. It really was a good time, great people, all the advice and expertise I could ask for (thanks also to the guy who just happened to have an extra carpet square). I was expecting a real zoo when it came time to go out on the lake en masse, but you folks have it down to a science - I don't know who devised your split parking lots and double route system, but it worked out great. Breakfast Saturday morning at the church was good - I was barely in time, but the couple in front of me let me go ahead in line, and the old man even went and fetched a cup of coffee for me to drink while I was in line! Thanks again, ob Lovell

My family lived in Trona from 1977 to 1982 and I attended K through 5th there. We lived on the corner of Mariposa and Telescope (13286 Mariposa?)in Trona proper and 13610 on Elm. It's strange how your thoughts go back to Trona. I retain wonderful memories of the best teachers I ever had (Beerup, Boyer, Malnassy, Davis, Ericsen, and Davis, K-5th, the wonderful Trona Elementary librarian, Marge Dorsey, and Pastor and Mrs. Wilson), as well as many great friends. Anyone interested in Steven and Ann Slimp (my parents) or Amy (Slimp) Diaz (my sister), can contact me.
