Just browsing the web and found your site, wondering what has changed since 69, haven't
been back since. Am currently living off the Bering Sea in Alaska, a climate which is more
suitable for habitation, (with enough clothing on) any reunions or plans for the class of
69. Enough have fun.

the first 13 years of my life. I didn't realize all the history that was in this little
town. Thanks for some interesting facts. If anyone remembers me or my family please e-mail
me. My mom is Karen and my sister is Belinda. My mom used to work in the grocery store
down by Argus area. My dad was named JW and my brother Jimmy. Thanks again.

Ya all go back to the '98 page and you'll see why I have reservations about "I drove
thru there once". Any who, the reason I'm typing to ya all again. I got a responce
from my last visit to your page from [I think the daughter of the Standard {Cheveron} Oil
dealer in Trona. I must have deleated the letter as I can't find it in my folders
anywhere. I would like to kmow it the lady who e-mailed me was the daughter of Joe
Branwin. I found a Standard Oil receipt from 1956 from the station in Trona. Check this
out; 10.5 gal of gas for $3.45 plus $0.40 for {i'm assumeing} a gal of white gas. White
gas for all those too young to remember is what they call "Coleman Fuel" now.
Would like to hear from the lady who wrote me and I'll be thru town in March, around the
21st. Thanks, hope that lady still reads these contact forms. Also, to the lady in the
museum. I was thru there one a {long] while back and talked to her about the small
printing press they have. I found the wood that I was going to make some
"furnitur" out of. I will get that cut up and brought out to you. Probably not
on my next trip, but I will do it. Thanks, I think I've confused enough of you for now.

I've never signed a guest book, but I could not pass this up !! Born in Trona (1966). Left
with Dad and Mom after the big strike (1970) and moved to Northern Ca. Spent every Summer
and Christmas with Grandma's, Grandpa's (Moses's/Ledesma's), Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and
lots of very special friends. Moved back in 1984 and worked at the plant until Dec. 88.
Found many more life long friends. I sure miss you all !!!

Well, this was a great surprise to find our old stomping grounds on the net. My husband and
I lived in Trona and Argus from the summer of 62 til late 66. He worked at the West End
Plant for the first three years and then at the Trona plant for a few months before we
moved to Oregon. I worked as barmaid at the Bonanza in Argus and eventually took it over
from Rusty. We bowled with the West End Bowling League at the old bowling alley - when
there were still two-legged pin setters. Only four lanes, and what a good time we had. The
only place we could find to live was Pana Project, and felt lucky to get that. We
eventually moved up on the hill in Argus, next door to Charlotte Sorrenson and her
husband. We had five kids when we arrived in Trona and six when we left. The two oldest,
John and Debbie, were in school. Jerry Oswald was our school bus driver. Her husband
worked at West End. Ann Dye was one of my babysitters. Barbara Roofener was a bowling
buddy. There and so many friends that I would like to know about. I hope that anyone that
remembers us would make contact via e-mail. We live in Florida now. we have seven grown
children, sixteen grandkids, and two great grandkids. We would appreciate hearing from
anyone.

Wow....my sister Jimmie told me about this ...I was amazed...talk about
memories..unreal:)) Lots of names I recognize...however all the faces have
changed...except Cathy Wisemans...I recognized her instantly...still admire her:)) Never
felt like I was really a part of the history of Trona, but I guess since I lived there from
the time I was 3yrs old till I left just before graduation I am apart of the history...I'm
curious however, I remember getting in trouble and having to spend a week after school for
calling Chuck Gonzales a chuckawalla...what ever happened to him? And also, Pam Pilcher
she was my idol...LOL and I always figured she and Larry Boe would get married...guess I
shouldn't have figured:)) Anyway hello to all...feel free to write or call or email
me...I'm easy to find:))))

My grandfather, Anthony Gauslin, was superintendent on the original construction of the
plant for American Potash (about 1914 - 1916). He was the first operating superintendent
of the plant until his retirement in 1920. The plant was built by Manistee (Michigan)
Ironworks. I have a number of photographs of Trona dating back to 1915 or so.

I've lived here since I was 6 yrs. old. I attended school here K-12,have had a very happy
life here. My husband and I raised our 3 children here.We have been very happy here! We
enjoy a slower pace of life, which Trona allows. Our children all live somewhere else, we
visit them frequently. Trona has been good for us. It has changed a lot from the way it
used to be, but we have too! It would be fun to hear from classmates or friends I've know
over the years! There's something "special" about a small town like Trona, don't
you agree?

I grew up in Trona, with my brother and sister, Randy and Glenna Powers. My whole family
lived in Trona -- aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins. My father, Leroy Powers, and both
grandparents, Sid Powers and Esau Worman, worked at the plants, in West End and the
AP&CC before it was Kerr-McGee. They are all gone now, buried in the Trona cemetary.
My Mom, Ila, died in '77 and is also buried in Trona. Seems like the only time I go to
Trona is for funerals, but I have visited several times since I graduated and moved away.
I have fond memories of Trona, of spending so much time at the Valley Wells swimming pool
and Family Day, with fireworks and dunking booths and carnival rides. The last time I was
in Trona (unfortunately, for the funeral of my cousin, Steve Brangwin), the town looked so
different to me. Not even the salt cedar trees were green, and everything looked smaller
than I remembered. Maybe it's true that you can never really "go home", but I
will always have a special place in my heart for Trona, as it is my birthplace. I still
have relatives in Trona and Ridgecrest and am glad to know there will be cyber news of
Trona available online. Fond regards, Gayla (Powers) Lacatena

OF '65 AS I SHOULD HAVE, BUT I FEEL AS IF I WAS A PART OF IT. I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH
THE TRONA WEB PAGES AND IT IS GREAT FUN TO SEE THE NAMES FROM THE PAST (HOWEVER SOMETIMES
THE FACES ARE HARD TO MATCH UP). I JUST WANTED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT THINGS HAVE GONE
WELL FOR ME AND I DID GO ON TO COLLEGE AND AM NOW A COURT CLERK WORKING ON THE CIVIL SIDE.
A SAD NOTE....(KENNETH) DEAN McMILLEN DIED AT HIS HOME IN TEXARKANA, TEXAS IN AUG '97.
ALTHOUGH WE WERE NOT MARRIED AT THE TIME, IT WAS STILL A SHOCK. HIS MOTHER, RUBY
LITTLETON, STILL LIVES IN TEXARKANA.

Hello, Congratulations on all the fine work you have done on your Trona page. I was a
longtime subscriber to the Trona Argonaut. I had a small place at Indian Ranch in the
Panamint Valley and the Argonaut was a way of keeping in touch with events in the area. I
wrote the occasional letter to the paper mainly about the great horsefly preserve that we
had near Ballarat. One of the folks that was with us at Indian Ranch was Bob Garnet, Bob
was/is a pilot and I had the pleasure of making a number of flights with him to various
interesting places in the desert. Bob built an airplane at the Trona airport and then kept
the aircraft there for a number of years. I have lost contact with Bob, I understand that
he may live in Pahrump but have been unable to find and address or phone number that would
allow me to get in touch with him. I have called the Trona airport telephone number but it
seems to have been discontinued. So---Im wondering if by chance you know or know
someone that may have Bobs address or phone number. Pat Hannan, an Indian Ranch
alumni, would join me in thanking you if you can give us any information and in any case
thank you for your efforts. Im good friends with Jim and Norma Weston of Happy
Canyon and Ballarat Bob once cooked dinner for me in his home as his tame burro circled
the cabin so you see I come with the very best credentials. I tried to access the
Tronanews page but with no luck, I will give it another try later. Thanks for the
interesting web page. Harold Ericsson Harbor City, Ca hericsson2@aol.com

I graduated in 1965. I found out about your web site from a former classmate who is also

and I do feel it is very different and special. I still visit, because I do have relatives
there, and also I buried my mother there three years ago this past August. My sister is
also buried there, so I do visit their gravesites. Summers are still killers there. I just
attended my cousin Bob Inscore's funeral, August 11, 1999, and it was mild there for this
time of year. I will always remember my years there. Please feel free to e-mail me if you
remember me. I would love to hear from you. I have worked for a school district here in
Glendale, for over 15 years now. Huge compared to Trona. We have 19 elementary schools, 4
middle schools, 3 high schools and a continuation school. Lots of kids. Hi to the class of

My name is Mike Osborn and I was born at the Trona Community Hospital on
April 3, 1951. I have two younger brothers and sisters who were also born
in Trona; Mark, Karen, Jan, and Don (Jr.). I beleive my parents, Don and
Margaret Osborn, moved to Trona in 1950. I remember something about our
living in Homewood Canyon for a short time, but then moving to a house on
8th, between Benton and Sutter, then to Benton St, and finally to Elm, all
in Pioneer Point. My grandparents, Charles and grandma Farrah, lived just
off of Austin Square until about 1963(?). They rasied a number of kids (my
uncles and aunts) that graduated THS, including; Bonnie, Gary, Diane, Jim,
Gordon, and a couple of others that I can't remember right now. Since
Bonnie was born in 1948, I think you contemporary would have been Jim or
Gordon Farrah.
My family lived in Trona until my father passed away in 1965 (he was only 35
or 36), from a heart of attack; I was then 14 years old. He is buried in
the Trona Cemetary. My mother stuck it out in Trona for about 9 mo.'s and
then we moved to the Fresno area.
I have vivid and fond memorys of growing up in Trona. I often wondered what
becames of the dozens of friends that I grew up with. In searching the
various Trona sites I see next to nothing in the way of email addresses or
bio's for the class of '69.
Attached our a couple of pictures:
38.JPG is probably younger sister Jan, so this would be about '57. Front
yard on Benton St.
42.JPG is a good shot of Valley Wells, though from memory I think the photo
is backwards. I think it is pre-55
48.JPG was just too cool a shot not to send, though I couldn't tell what
part of the desert it's in
sta wag trona.jpg is looking pretty much NNE from Benton. Neat station
wagon.

I have a special place in my heart for all the hikes in the mountains and trips to The Trails. One of the last places my father took me before his death was a hike up one of the small mountains when you first get into town. I wish I could download some of the adventures my sisters and friends went on in that ever so hot small hometown.
I was born in Ridgecrest at 11:59am, July 4th 1970. I still remember the town like the back of my hand. It now seems so long ago, but still fresh in my mind. I still miss winning things at the Gem and Mineral show and swimming lessons at Valley Wells. I still find myself dreaming from time to time about being on the old road, walking to Valley Wells, but never getting there. Probably my own way of telling myself we can never go back. I love the desert. I stayed in trona years ago, while exploring the death valley region. If there is anybody in Trona or somebody who is moving out of the area and have a cabin/house for sale, email me. I would be interested in buying it. Who knows, I may be able to bring some employment to area (I own a small business) I would also like to talk to someone who can show me around the area, especially the old ghost towns and mining claims.
