The American Trona Company built the Hornsey plant to try an experimental chemical extraction process. It was built at the location of John Searles operation. When it failed American Trona Company went bankrupt and then reemerged as American Potash & Chemical Corporation. The tracks on the lake were probably made from a Renard road train.
