Brine from under the dry surface of the lake was pumped into the plant where it was concentrated in the evaporation towers. From there it was moved to various parts of the plant where it was concentrated further until the desired chemicals precipitated out. After about 10% of the chemicals were removed the brine was returned to the lake where it mixed with the lake brine, dissolved more chemical and was pumped back to the plant again.
